KerkmanLaw was founded by Bert Kerkman in 2001.

Prior to founding KerkmanLaw, Bert Kerkman has worked as an associate and partner with large international law firms. He has many years of experience representing multinational businesses in their corporate and commercial activities in The Netherlands. He has a well established reputation in the areas of Dutch corporate and insolvency law,  commercial law, and related complex cross-border litigation and arbitration.

Bert received a degree in Dutch civil law and commercial law from the University of Utrecht Law School, the Netherlands. Post-graduate studies were completed at the Netherlands Institute for Banking and Securities (NIBE), the University of Amsterdam, the University of Rotterdam, and the Université du Pantheon in Paris. He received the specialisation certificate of the Netherlands Association of International Trade Lawyers (NAVIH), as well as the Grotius-INSOLAD specialisation certificate in Netherlands insolvency law.

Bert is a member of the Bars of Amsterdam and Paris. He is also a member of the Netherlands Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten*), the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the ‘Union Internationale des Avocats’, the Netherlands association for distributorship, franchise and agency law (DFA), the Association for International Arbitration (AIA), the Netherlands association for civil litigation law (NvvP), and the Netherlands association for corporate litigation (Vereniging Corporate Litigation).

Besides his activities as an attorney, Bert is a substitute Judge of the Courts of the Netherlands, and an ad hoc arbitrator.

He is fluent in English, French and Dutch and has a working knowledge of German and Spanish.
